This set features Cita Rodriguez on a beautiful bolero.
This two day celebration of the music of Tito Puente, Machito & Carlos Henriquez at the Rose Hall in NYC on June 12 & 13th, 2015, was magical, to say the least. On this occasion, the world renowned Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra was directed by and the event was M.C.ed by veteran member and virtuoso bassist, Carlos Henriquez. Several of his compositions and arrangements were performed, in addition to some classic Puente and Machito tunes.
I was extremely honored to be a special guest with the orchestra for this 2 day event, along with living legends Johnny Dandy Rodriguez and Jose Madera and masters, George Delgado, Marco Bermudez and last but not least, Cita Rodriguez. An extra special treat for me was sitting in Wynton Marsalis’ seat and playing the book (4th trumpet) he would normally play, although they don’t usually play Puente and Machito tunes.
If you missed the concerts or the “live” stream, I have a treat for you. Below is a video of the 2nd set of our June 12th performance. Over the next couple of days, I also will the 1st & 2nd set of the June 13th performance.
I know you will enjoy this video. Put on the good headphones or connect the good speakers because this music and performance are worthy of it. Feel free to share this with all your Salsero friends. Doing so helps to keep this music alive. Thanks.
